Our Modern Shaker Bed is distinctly modern, as the name suggests, yet unmistakably warm.  Characterized by clean lines, the bed is in perfect union with the strength and beauty of natural woods. Designed with a low profile and a shaker tape headboard, this bed is truly unique.  
Our Modern Shaker Bed is a platform bed and does not require a boxspring. Available  in rift-sawn oak, walnut  and cherry. An original Chilton design, made in Maine.

Platform vs. Standard Bed Frame

A Standard bed frame typically comes with 3-5 "slats", or pieces of wood that lay across the side rails of the bed frame. These slats are designed to hold a traditional box spring, or foundation, which sits under a mattress to provide support.

A Platform bed has either plywood or sufficient slats running down the length of the bed frame to directly support a mattress without the need for a box spring.

Platform beds typically cost a little more than Standard ones, but they avoid the need to purchase a box spring and allow for a more modern, lower profile look.

Chilton offers nation-wide white glove delivery service, which means that your furniture will be carefully blanket wrapped, transported to your home, carried inside, and assembled, as needed. Your charge is a flat rate based upon delivery distance from Maine, and includes an unlimited number of pieces (a particularly good value for larger orders).
