Penobscot Arbor Bed
The Penobscot collection is named after the great river that runs through the center of Maine and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Before dams were placed on the river, ocean ships could travel all the way inland to Bangor, which was the lumber export capital of the world in the 1800's, to pick up their wooden cargo. There were so many boats in the river it is said you could walk from deck to deck to cross between the two cities of Bangor and Brewer.
The Arbor bed, built in Cherry, is a modern Arts & Crafts design, which will lull you into a deep slumber with its hints of Maine's endless forests.
Queen - 66"W x 82"L x 50"H (footboard 20"H)
King - 84"W x 82"L x 50"H (footboard 20"H)
Other Bed Dimensions:
Rails - 6 1/4"H x 1"D
Slat Height is 12 1/2" off floor and 4 1/4" deep on rail
Bed Posts - 2 1/4" Thick
Built in Cherry, this bed is designed to be used as a platform bed that only requires a mattress or to accommodate a standard mattress and foundation. 5 - 1/2" thick by 15 3/4"W plywood slats make up the bed foundation. This rests on 1" x 1" cleats attached to solid wood rails. Also there is a solid wood spine that runs under the plywood for extra support, in the center of the bed, suspended by 3 adjustable feet.
Please note that when your new cherry wood furniture arrives, it may be lighter in color than the wood shown in the accompanying photo. New cherry wood is initially a pale, straw color and gradually darkens to a beautiful amber over time with exposure to light.
Built to Order
Standard build times are approximately 10-12 weeks, plus delivery.Platform vs. Standard Bed Frame
A Standard bed frame typically comes with 3-5 "slats", or pieces of wood that lay across the side rails of the bed frame. These slats are designed to hold a traditional box spring, or foundation, which sits under a mattress to provide support.
A Platform bed has either plywood or sufficient slats running down the length of the bed frame to directly support a mattress without the need for a box spring.
Platform beds typically cost a little more than Standard ones, but they avoid the need to purchase a box spring and allow for a more modern, lower profile look.
